Fairfax House

Discover the splendour of Fairfax House, one of England’s finest Georgian townhouses. Originally the winter residence of Viscount Fairfax, this architectural masterpiece was designed by York’s renowned 18th-century architect, John Carr.

After being repurposed as a cinema and dance hall in the 20th century, it was restored to its former glory by York Civic Trust in the 1980s.

Today, Fairfax House immerses visitors in the splendour of Georgian city living. 

Fairfax House is currently closed for essential conservation work and will re-open on Saturday 8th February.
